Signed and dated 1612, Louis Finson’s Saint Sebastian is a powerful testimony to the artist’s Neapolitan period and sheds light on the artistic exchanges between Italy and the South of France. Recently rediscovered after remaining in a private Provençal collection since the 17th century, we are thrilled to announce that the painting now becomes an extraordinary addition to the permanent collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille.
This remarkable acquisition, originally coming from us, has been made possible through the generosity of the Fondation JG, under the aegis of the Fondation La Sauvegarde de l’Art Français. A special thank to Olivier Morand of the Hôtel d’Agar for his studies on Finson and for the facilitation in these contacts.
